Dental Implants in Carrollwood Village, FL

Tooth loss affects how you chew and how you speak. It can affect neighboring teeth, causing them to shift, and over time, it can even change your facial appearance. Removable dentures solve the aesthetic issue but are notoriously unstable. Dental implants at Carrollwood Village Dental offer a long-term solution that addresses the problem at its root, not just its surface.

What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed surgically into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth root. Over the next several months, the implant integrates and fuses with the bone and tissue around it. When it’s fully integrated, Dr. Mancuso places a custom restoration on top that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth.

Why Our Patients Choose Dental Implants

Missing teeth affect more than appearance. Patients with tooth loss typically deal with several issues before considering implants. Any of these sound familiar?
Pain or Chewing Difficulty
A missing tooth shifts the workload to surrounding teeth, making chewing difficult or even painful. Implants restore full chewing function, allowing most patients to eat without restriction or discomfort.
Smile Gaps Affecting Confidence
A visible gap can change how you feel about smiling, speaking, and socializing. An implant-supported restoration fills that gap with something that looks and feels like your own tooth.
Bone Loss from Missing Teeth
Without a tooth root to stimulate it, the jawbone in the area begins to shrink. Implants are the only tooth replacement option that preserves bone by mimicking the function of a natural root.
Other Changes Due to Tooth Loss
Missing teeth cause neighboring teeth to shift, gradually, altering your bite and changing your smile’s appearance. Addressing the gap prevents a problem that compounds without further treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Getting a dental implant involves several steps and a healing period of several months, but the rewards are well worth it! Dental implants are titanium replacement roots that mimic natural teeth because we surgically place them directly into the jawbone.

Dental Implant Placement Procedure

You will see an oral surgeon to have the dental implant placed under local anesthesia, and the process takes 1–2 hours per tooth.

During healing, a process called osseointegration occurs as the titanium implant fuses with the bone and tissue around it. The healing period is when the implant acquires its real strength and resilience, making it unique from all other tooth replacements.

After the healing period, we place a natural-looking tooth restoration on top of the dental implant. Depending on how many teeth we replace, the restoration may be a crown, bridge, or denture.

A Replacement Tooth That Feels Like the Real Thing!

Through the use of dental implants, dental restorations really do feel, look and function like natural teeth. With your new implant, you can chew comfortably, speak clearly, and smile confidently again. Dental implants are meant to be permanent and can last twenty years or longer when maintained properly.

Multiple Implant Options for Your Needs

There are several types of restorations, depending on the number of teeth:

  • For a single missing tooth, we top the implant with a custom dental crown.
  • For several missing teeth in a row, an implant-supported bridge uses two implants as anchors rather than crowns on individual teeth.
  • For full or nearly full tooth loss, implant-supported dentures and overdentures are significantly more stable than traditional removable dentures. We anchor the denture securely to the implants for a secure, comfortable fit with no shifting or movement.

What Is an Overdenture?

Dental implants can also be used to improve a denture, which is called an overdenture. An overdenture is supported by dental implants rather than resting only on your gums. It has special attachments that clip onto the dental implants, so you don't have to worry about the dentures shifting in your mouth or falling out.

The Dental Implant Process

Getting dental implants is a process that takes place over several months and multiple appointments.

Initial Evaluation

A thorough evaluation determines if you’re a good implant candidate. Jawbone density, overall health, and gum condition are all factors. Not every patient is an immediate candidate, and Dr. Mancuso will be straight with you about any preliminary steps needed to make implants possible in your case.

Implant Placement and Restoration

Dr. Mancuso coordinates with an experienced oral surgeon in our area. From the initial consultation through the final restoration, Dr. Mancuso and his team manage the process and coordinate with the surgical team.

After placement, Dr. Mancuso monitors healing and places the final restoration once integration is complete. The timeline varies by patient but typically spans several months from placement to finished restoration.
