If you live with broken, decayed, missing, or otherwise damaged teeth, you are not alone. Countless people of all ages sometimes need a little extra help keeping their teeth healthy and getting their smiles back on track.

When your teeth are healthy and strong, you feel more confident, especially when you’re able to chew, speak, and laugh comfortably and painlessly. Carrollwood Village Dental provides five-star solutions for restoring broken, decayed, lost, and damaged teeth.

Dental Crowns Can Save Your Tooth

Dental crowns are a long-lasting and dependable option for replacing or strengthening teeth. Also called “caps,” dental crowns can save a tooth that’s undergone treatment like a root canal. A root canal typically leaves a tooth with less than 100 percent of its strength because the diseased portion has been removed. As a result, less of the tooth’s structure is present, so it needs reinforcement. That’s where the crown comes in.

A crown is placed and secured over the weakened or brittle tooth, offering its support and protection. Now, the natural tooth remains, but beneath the crown. Dental crowns can also conceal and fortify teeth that are extremely worn, misshapen, stained, or fractured. Dental bridges also use crowns to keep them in place.

The Process of Getting a Dental Crown

If Dr. Mancuso determines you need a crown, he will take an x-ray to ensure the jawbone and the tooth’s root are sturdy enough to receive treatment. Next, he prepares the natural tooth by removing any damage or decay. Once the tooth is cleared out and clean, he will take a mold of the tooth and send it to a local dental lab.

The lab may take a few weeks to finish your permanent, custom-made crown, but in the meantime, Dr. Mancuso will place a temporary crown over your tooth. However, once your custom crown is ready, he will immediately place the final crown, and you can enjoy all the benefits of your newly restored smile.
